What this tool checks

The formatting checker scans your pasted resume text for the structural elements recruiters and parsing software rely on. It looks for contact details (email, phone, LinkedIn), the core sections most employers expect (summary, experience, education, skills), formatting signals such as bullet points and action verbs, evidence of quantified achievements, and ATS-risk patterns like table-like layouts or photo references.

Each check is labelled by importance: critical items should be fixed before you apply, important items meaningfully affect readability and parsing, and recommended or optional items are improvements rather than requirements.

How to interpret your result

• 75% or higher: your resume has the expected structure. Review any remaining critical items before submitting.
• 50–74%: several sections or signals are missing. Fix every critical item first, then work through the important ones.
• Below 50%: core structure is incomplete. Address the critical checks before using this resume in an application.

The percentage reflects how many of the 14 checks passed — it is a structural checklist, not a guarantee of how any specific employer will rank your resume.

A short example

Adding a labelled Professional Summary, a clearly headed Work Experience section with bullet points starting in action verbs, a Skills section, and contact details with an email and phone number would move the same content from a failing score into the passing range.

Important limitations

• The checker reads plain text only. It cannot see your actual visual layout, fonts, columns, images, or whether a PDF uses text boxes — all of which can affect real ATS parsing.
• It detects section headings by keyword, so an unlabeled but well-organized resume may be flagged as missing a section it actually contains.
• A high score means the expected structure is present; it does not measure content quality, accuracy, or how well you match a specific job description.
• Different ATS products parse resumes differently. This tool reflects common expectations, not the behaviour of any particular system.
