Data engineer Resume Template
Data engineering sits at the intersection of software engineering and data infrastructure. Your resume must signal both: the ability to write production-grade code and the expertise to design pipelines that deliver clean, reliable data at scale. This template structures both dimensions so neither is overlooked.

Profile
Computer science graduate targeting junior data engineering roles. Built a local Python and PostgreSQL pipeline for public transit timetable files, with schema checks, repeatable loads and documented recovery steps.
Technical skills
Python: CSV parsing and validation. SQL and PostgreSQL: joins, constraints and staging tables. Git, unit tests and Docker for local development.
Data projects
Transit timetable pipeline | Independent project | March to June 2026
Parsed public timetable CSV files in Python and loaded validated records into PostgreSQL staging and reporting tables.
Added duplicate-key and missing-stop checks. Used a transaction to replace a daily partition so rerunning the same input did not duplicate rows.
Documented failed-load recovery and tested malformed CSV fixtures. Ran locally in Docker; this was not a production service and no uptime claim was measured.
Additional experience
Peer programming volunteer | Example University | October 2025 to May 2026
Helped classmates reproduce SQL query errors with small test tables and wrote example queries explaining join behavior.
Education
BSc Computer Science | Example University | 2026
Relevant coursework: Databases, Software Testing, Distributed Systems.
Describe the data path
Source, transformation, destination and load strategy make a pipeline understandable. A list of cloud services alone does not show engineering decisions.
Explain reruns and failures
The example names duplicate checks and transactional partition replacement. Be ready to explain why that approach was chosen and what it does not handle, such as late corrections outside that partition.
Turn bullets into interview evidence
For each project, prepare an explanation of the input, your design choice, a failure case and a trade-off. Use the same factual project for interview preparation rather than memorizing an invented success story.
Limited experience or no measurable achievements?
- No production experience? Label the work Independent project or Coursework and give the actual environment. Do not claim on-call ownership, production scale or service-level guarantees.
- No throughput measurements? Explain data checks, rerun behavior and a reproducible test. If you later benchmark it, record hardware, input size and method before quoting numbers.
- No cloud budget? A local CSV-to-database pipeline can demonstrate modeling and reliability decisions. Do not add Spark, Kafka or a cloud platform solely because they appear in the vacancy.
Before you submit
- Name the source, transformation, destination and your personal contribution.
- Label local or academic projects honestly and verify any scale claims.
- Prepare an explanation of one failure test, rerun strategy and design trade-off.
- Remove API keys and sensitive data from repository links and sample files.
- Match genuine experience to vacancy requirements and verify the requested file format.
